A board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship trained corneal, refractive, and cataract surgeon, Dr. Mackman practiced in the valley for more than 25 years with Phoenix Ophthalmologists. While now retired, Dr. Mackman was an important mentor for Dr. Jeremy Van Buren and many of our staff.
Dr. Mackman received his B.S., M.D., and residency training at the University of Wisconsin. Following residency, he completed a cornea fellowship at the University of Florida. For many years, he was a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and a member of the Castroviejo Cornea Society. Dr. Mackman is past president of the Phoenix Ophthalmological Society and has helped thousands over the years being named a “Top Doc” in both local and national magazines. Dr. Mackman gave lectures, presented exhibits, and taught courses at major ophthalmology conventions. He published numerous articles in many of the major journals on eye disease and surgery.
“Dr M” and his wife are now enjoying their time in retirement. Visiting their grown children and caring for their seven rescued pets. Dr. Mackman also takes pleasure in combining photography and world travel.
